Real weight loss takes time
When you start to eat fewer calories-being on a calorie deficit your body will burn fat and gradually lose weight. One pound of body fat is about 3,500 calories. A deficit of 500-1000 calories yields around 1-2 pounds a week. This might sound slow, but if you lose 8 pounds every month, that’s almost a hundred pounds in a year. Trying to lose 30 pounds in one month may be possible, but a majority of it will be water weight and is unrealistic in the long term.
Rushing your weight loss causes you stress
Trying to lose a lot of weight in a short time is unhealthy, mentally and physically. Looking to get rid of a large amount of weight in only a few weeks will only cause you to be frustrated. It is natural for you to want instant results when you start to lose weight, but the chances of you breaking and gaining it back are much higher. Mentally, it can be daunting to expect to lose a pound every day. You might feel stressed or disappointed in your slow results, and even relapse the weight. Taking it slow with your weight loss will help you to take steps even if there are minor setbacks.
There are health risks to fast-paced weight loss
Losing a lot of weight in a short time is not good. Not only can it mess up the speed of your metabolism in the long run, but cause you nutrient deficiency and gallstones. Many fast-paced weight loss diets usually have an unhealthy calorie deficit attached to them. You can lose hair and muscle mass, be at risk of heart problems, and even faint from not eating enough. Instead, work on changing your eating and exercise habits.
Long-term is better than the short-term
Super-restrictive diet plans are difficult—if not impossible. Most people can’t manage them and break them. If the weight loss plan isn’t something you can’t stick with for months or years, it's probably a short-term weight loss plan. Even if you lose a ton of weight, you CAN gain it all back. Short-term weight loss plans don’t train you to stick to good portion sizes or eat healthily. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, eat a sustainable diet that can become a lifestyle down the road. You won’t notice the weight in a month, but 6 months down the road you will notice you have changed a lot.
But it can be hard to get your mind to the place where it needs to be to start taking healthy action towards your goals.
Don’t let your mind stop you from weight loss.
I’ve put together a program that combines both mental reprogramming with diet and exercise that is guaranteed to help you lose weight.
