There are going to be days when making healthy choices seem hard, and all you want to do is eat whatever you want and skip exercise. Food cravings especially are hard to say no to, because you have to eat, and your brain loves endorphins. When you feel like you can’t control yourself, having a person to confide in can help to find a healthier alternative or distract you from your temptations.

Maintain healthy habits

Habits - especially ones good for you-are hard to build and maintain. Being a part of something enjoyable makes the usually unenjoyable parts of losing weight more bearable. Support groups are not the only ones that tell you nice things. Joining fitness clubs and health groups is a great way to stay in shape while enjoying your time in the process, and is one of the best support groups out there.

Keeps you motivated

Though discipline carries you to the finish line, there will be times you don’t feel like you are making any progress. Your mental health is also very important while losing weight, and affects your decision-making. Having someone or something to motivate you during your low points can keep you confident in your journey. Weight loss is a very personal and unique experience for each individual, and it’s easy to get confused or stuck along the way.

Having the right support

It is essential to have a support system around, but you need to be careful who that might be. Support groups that have unrealistic goals, or are extremely negative can cause problems with your own wants. As well, family and friends can sometimes not be the right support system for you. If you are having more setbacks in your weight loss, or are more insecure in yourself because of your “support”, then you should begin to find a better system. Surrounding yourself with bad supporters can jeopardize your weight loss plan.
